5 Senses of Autumn - Setting the Mood for Autumn in Your Home

Spots of red in the trees and a slight chill in the air can only mean one thing. It's time to put away our flip flops and nestle into a new season: Autumn. Say what you will about the extremes of our climate here in Georgina, and all across Ontario, but there are many things about this looming season which we can all agree gives us warm and cozy vibes (and we're not just referring to the infamous return of the Pumpkin-Spice Latte). So let us help you set the mood for autumn in your home by stimulating all 5 senses:

Sight: Invite warm tones into your home decor by accenting your couch with a red pillow or taking out your Thanksgiving accessories a little early. That orange table cloth or classic cornucopia centre piece will create an instant surge of energy in any room.

Smell: You can't deny the euphoric feeling you get when you walk into a bakery. Fresh bread, apple pies, cookies, you name it, feels like a warm hug upon entry. If baking isn’t for you, you can get the same effect by lighting a pumpkin-spice scented candle (yes, we like pumpkin-spice, and no, it’s not cheating!).

Touch: Until the chill begins demanding layers, and hard, scratchy wool to keep us warm, fit each room with soft knitted blankets and plush throws to stimulate a physical feeling of comfort in your home. The softness of the fabric against the skin will ease anxiety and promote relaxation.

Sound: As in any yoga session, calm, soothing melodies can take your mind to a place of peace and relaxation. Try searching for Fall Playlists on Spotify or Sound Cloud and find tunes that will give you all the right feels to settle into the season. We like “Fall for you” or “Fall Feels” on Spotify.

Taste: Living in Georgina means we get to take pleasure and pride in a true farm to fork experience! Shop fresh and pick up produce from your local farmer to create a warm dish, chili or soup that will warm the soul. Here’s a recipe for Butternut Squash and Sweet Potato Soup.

Stop by the Georgina Farmers' Market every Sunday until October 29, 2017, at the LINK in Sutton from 9:00am – 2:00pm, to support our local farmers. Take it one step further and plan your entire Thanksgiving Feast with Sharon Temple's annual Farm to Fork Tour, taking place September 30th. Find more information at: www.experienceeg.ca
